Gareth Stokes, author of the popular non-life insurance title Everything you need to know about non-life insurance in South Africa has started work on the 2020 edition of the book, due for launch at the 2020 African Insurance Exchange at Sun City from 26 – 29 July this year.
The book, now in its third cycle, is well supported by the industry thanks to its comprehensive coverage of the South African non-life insurance landscape. Our 2018 backers read like the ‘who’s who’ of the local industry, including: Aon, Allianz, Auto & General, Bryte, Camargue, CIB, Discovery Insure, Hollard Insure, Indwe Risk Services, Lireas, Marsh, Old Mutual Insure, Santam, Sasria, Tracker and Western Insurance.
“We update the publication every two years to reflect the latest industry statistics and give readers an up to date overview of the regulatory environment,” says Gareth. “We also work closely with industry to ensure that the content is relevant to a wide range of non-life insurance stakeholders – readers benefit from the book whether they are involved in administration, claims handling, distribution, management or underwriting”. The book is also widely read by educators and students of insurance, appearing on the recommended reading lists popular university-level non-life insurance courses.
“One of the main changes for the 2020 edition will be wider coverage of classes of non-life insurance business in line with the 2017 Insurance Act,” says Gareth. “I am in discussions with leading insurance brands to step in as chapter / section sponsors that resonate with their speciality lines, thereby creating opportunities to link the book with online content”.
